Local government must work for the benefit and well-being of all residents.

Working together we can use the power of local government for the benefit of all Lane County residents. We can make our community more resilient, safe, and supportive while honoring our local families and workers and safeguarding our natural resources and other assets.

With Pete Sorenson retiring from this position (not running again) Lane County needs an experienced leader to join the Board. With my background and experience in local and state government I’m that person. I’m the candidate for this position that can work most effectively with all of the other four Lane County Commissioners. No more them & us politics. Working collaboratively we can see the County through the latest crisis and make sure the work of all County departments is solid. My track record shows my non-partisan commitment to serving the community.

I’m an Oregonian, raised in Redmond in Central Oregon. I moved to Eugene in 1969 to attend the University of Oregon and have lived in Eugene since then, with the exception of a year living on a farm up the McKenzie River. I live in the SE Neighbors area of South Eugene with my husband Jim Porter, a construction contractor and remodeler.

My background includes more than 25 years of work experience as a public advocate in government relations including representing small businesses, associations, public interest groups and individuals interacting with the Oregon Legislature. Additional work experience includes serving as a consultant on land use and government relations at the city and county level in Oregon. I was elected to and served three terms on the Eugene Water & Electric Board (EWEB). In 10 years of service as an elected EWEB Commissioner, I came to value the insight and dedication of the public employees that keep the day-to-day operations running, and enjoyed the challenge of refining public policies in response to citizen ratepayer/owners’ request for attention and action on issues. I understand the critical balance between policy setting and management. I have a track record of making policy decisions with integrity, transparency, and accountability.

As a local activist and former elected official, I have decades of experience with issues including renewable power, waste management, land use, agriculture and food issues, health care, public safety, and justice issues.

I am committed to bringing communities of interest together to solve problems and protect the quality of life and work in Lane County.
